Fish Creek Field Trip

This week we had the privilege to go to wonderful Fish Creek Provincial Park for a field trip. Here we used topographical maps and compasses to find our way around on the trails and find some special marked spots, this is called orienteering. Many of the students saw deer, squirrels, chipmunks and different species of birds. Some of the groups were able to find many of the 12 markers around the trails, but none found all of them. We had a wonderful day exploring in the snow and getting used to using a map to get around and find things. Feel free to ask your children what their favorite part of the day at Fish Creek was.

Kernels Popcorn Fundraiser

Marlborough School Parent Council will be conducting a Kernels fundraiser from November 15th-November 29th. We expect to hand the orders out on December 9^th. The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to reduce the cost of school hoodies/t-shirts that will be available for purchase by all families at a later date. Snack size bags of popcorn are $2 each. The top selling classroom will win a pizza party!!!

Please help your child with our campaign.  Please sell to friends, family, neighbors, and people at work. 

Week of October 21st

Last week we were busy getting back into the swing of things after fall break. We wrapped up our Science unit of Light and Shadow with a test (ask your student how they did). Starting this week we have Mr. Barker for Science and he is teaching us all about Classroom Chemistry.
Check out this awesome Romero Britto inspired pumpkin art we started, we aren't quite finished, but they look great so far.

 

 

Ralph Klein Park

Our field trip to the Wetlands this week was incredible!! It was a little chilly but with everyone bundled up and the sun out we had a wonderful time!

We did a guided nature walk where we were able to spy many wildlife footprints, scat and other evidence of wildlife. Then we had the opportunity to conduct a pond dip to find invertebrates that are able to survive in our wetland giving us an idea of how healthy our water is.

Changing shadows

Over the past few weeks the students have been busy at work studying Light and Shadows. We have explored sources of light, translucent, transparent and opaque materials and using flashlights we explored the shadows opaque materials cast. This week we got the opportunity to head outside in the beautiful sunshine (despite all the snow) and explore our own changing shadows as the sun moved in the sky.
On Friday we created some beautiful tin foil sculptures, check out their shadows!

Field Trip Rescheduled

Hello Parents and Guardians of Room 18,

Due to inclement weather and poor road conditions we made a decision this morning to cancel the field trip today. We were however, able to reschedule the field trip and it will now take place next week, Thursday, October 10^th.

This is a fun lunch day so if you are ordering your child pizza, it will be kept at school and distributed at the end of the day before they go home, so please ensure they have a snack and lunch for the day.

The students will all still need to be dressed for the weather in warm layers and with appropriate footwear. They must bring water as the water at Ralph Klein Park is not drinkable.
