Parent Teacher Conferences

It's that time of year again when we are asking parents to sign up for Parent/Teacher Interviews.  In order to do this a PowerSchool account is necessary. This will also allow you to pay your school fees online. Please use the following link to create an accounthttps://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html
To help all parents/guardians have access to an account we are offering drop in sessions on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am as well as Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14 from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm. You must have a PowerSchool account to be able to book these conferences.  Teachers are excited to share your child's progress and look forward to meeting with you face to face.
If you have any trouble at all, please come to a drop-in session or call the office and we would be happy to help you.

Pink Shirt Day

The theme for today was kindness. We spoke at length about the meaning of today (Pink Shirt Day), how it started, why we wear pink, what we are standing up for and why it is so important. We learned the acronym THINK (Thoughtful Helpful Inspiring Necessary Kind) before you speak. If something you are about to say is not thoughtful, helpful, necessary, or kind perhaps you can think a little harder and you'll come up with something. Ask your child about some of their promises to be kind that they wrote about.

Aurora Borealis

Today we did a mixed media art to represent the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) that are visible in northern Canada. In Social Studies we learned about the Arctic Region in Canada and these are predominantly seen in that area. These lights are beautiful displays in the sky and there are many stories connected with them.

Comparing Cultures at the Glenbow

Today we visited the Glenbow and we had the incredible opportunity to learn about the four big indigenous cultures that made their home on this land, before Canada was even a country.  We learned how the indigenous cultures from the North, the East, the South and the West differed in terms of how they lived, what they hunted to eat and their traditions. We thoroughly enjoyed discovering different artifacts and even got the change to touch some and guess what region they would have originated from. Ask your child to tell you what their favourite part of this field trip was, I am sure they will have a lot to share.

Compost!

In science we are learning about Waste and our World and the lasting impact  landfills have on our environment. In order to reduce our footprint (and the waste we send to the landfill) significantly our school is rolling out a composting program. Our class is hard at work creating posters and presentations to share with all the other classes at Marlborough next week. Wish us luck!
